Efficient data transfer is critical for modern smart factories, and Balluff’s BIS V multi-frequency RFID processors are designed to deliver. Supporting low, high, and ultra-high frequency readers, the processors enable centralized management, streamlined commissioning, and integration with MES, ERP, and cloud applications via MQTT and REST API. With loop filters, rugged IP65 housing, and PowerScan connectivity, BIS V enhances reliability in demanding environments while cutting costs, reducing system complexity, and accelerating RFID deployments.

Enhancing Data Transfer and IT Integration
Users benefit from the availability of the standardized, lightweight, machine-to-machine communication protocol, MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport). The MQTT protocol is based on a publish-subscribe model and broker-based architecture, which enhances information transport from devices/machines to servers (and vice versa through a broker), and reduces network complexity within IIoT systems.
Another standard, lightweight IT protocol, REST API, is useful for constructing web APIs, facilitating data transfer between web services, online databases, and applications. The REST API protocol uses HTTP/JSON to retrieve tag data and device status, allowing for tailored setup. This eliminates the need for PLC communication alone and enables connection with MES (Manufacturing Execution System), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), or cloud applications. Using conventional networking protocols commonly found in industrial IT systems, the API can be utilized for work-in-progress monitoring, automatic setup during commissioning, and acquiring diagnostics for upkeep and repair. Both the MTTQ and REST API protocols are intended to simplify IT integration.

Improved UHF Application Control
Balluff’s BIS V multi-frequency RFID processors also feature PowerScan connectivity, provisioning customers with RFID and barcode reading functionalities in a single unit for industrial applications across logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing. Specific tasks might include tracking goods, managing inventories, and error-proofing. Balluff’s RFID processors also offer loop filters to pre-process and filter data, reducing noise and interference to ensure more consistent and reliable RFID read processes. Loop filters are typically used to commission and implement UHF RFID systems.
Other benefits
Overall, Balluff’s BIS V multi-frequency RFID processors provide more streamlined MES/ERP integration and device/processor configuration with MQTT/REST API and an intuitive graphical user interface. Further, users can access common bus systems (Profinet, Profibus, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, etc.) and utilize a built-in IO-Link master port for linking sensors and actuators, eliminating the need for extra I/O modules and reducing system complexity, as well as component costs.
Balluff’s multi-frequency processors also feature zinc die-cast housing with an ingress protection rating, IP65, making them dust-tight and resistant to water jet sprays from any direction. This protection level ensures that the processors can withstand harsh industry environments. Further, direct mounting reduces cable runs and installation overhead.
The centralized unit for the independent, mixed operation of multiple frequency readers means that just a single processing unit is required, simplifying the management of spare parts and reducing SKU storage in your warehouse.
Customers can use Balluff’s Entry-Level or Professional configurator to configure their ideal RFID system.
